About New Zealand

Visit the oldest settlement in Canterbury, the charming Anglo-French village of Akaroa, located on picturesque Banks Peninsula.

Departing Christchurch at 10.00am, we travel via the Port Hills, offering panoramic views of Christchurch, the Canterbury Plains, Southern Alps and Lyttelton Harbour.  We stop at Birdlings Flat to experience a wild Pacific beach on which interesting gemstones can be found.  Then we head to the rim of an extinct volcano, stopping for refreshments and the stunning vista of Akaroa Harbour.  We visit the one remaining cheese factory on Banks Peninsula, where you may have the opportunity to view cheesemaking and taste the finished product.

Upon arrival in the enchanting village of Akaroa, you will be able to visit the informative museum, explore the shops or just relax in the harbour environment.

The tour includes a magnificent harbour cruise, from which you may have the opportunity to view penguins, seals and the world’s smallest dolphin, the Hector’s Dolphin.  After returning from the harbour cruise, we enjoy a traditional Kiwi alfresco dining experience of Akaroa fish on the waterfront.

Our return journey takes us over the Summit Road, presenting the dramatic landscape of the flooded volcanic crater of Akaroa Harbour.  We arrive back in Christchurch at approximately 8.00pm.

The tour price includes the harbour cruise and dinner.  Lunch is not included, but your host is happy to make dining recommendations in Akaroa.
